not be resumed until the 12th March last. It is expected
that the remainder of the obstructions below Kipra, miles
in length, will be cut through to a breadth of 45 feet, and
that a channel 30 feet in width will be cut from Bhaitee-ka-
Bhit to the low ground at Marooee, beyond which point to
the Kilankur Dund nearly the whole of the excavation has
been finished. The expenditure during the year amounts to
Rs. 9,930.
271. The usual canal clearances have been carried out
in the Kurrachee, Hydrabad, and
Canal Clearances and Im- Shikarpoor Collectorates. From

the assignment ot Rs. 34,058 m
the Local Fund Budget of the year, to supplement the
Imperial grant, the full amount was expended on the clear
ance of canals, maintenance of bunds, &c. throughout the
province. New mouths to the Korai and Gunj Behur canals
in the Roree districts of the Shikarpoor Collectorate have
been executed, the sources from which they draw their
supply being completely silted up. Permanent sluices at
the heads of the Arthur, Naitch, and Kadur canals, drawing
their supply from the Western Narra, were under construc
tion during the year.
Dharwar Collectorate.
272. A survey has been undertaken to decide a long
mooted point, viz. whether a canal
from the Mulpurba River can be
led to water the Dharwar districts. This survey is not as yet
completed.
273. Surveys are in progress for a valuable Irrigational

above the Falls of Gokak. Preli
minary levels were run many years ago, and a report sent in
by Colonel (now Major General) Scott, R.E., which showed
the great facilities for irrigation at the abovementioned
