38. There have been a great number of attempts to
throw trains off the line by placing pot sleepers on the road;
fortunately all these attempts have failed, but in no ease have
any of the perpetrators been yet discovered.
39. Meeting .—The system of weekly meetings has
proved very successful in facilitating business, and in promo
ting harmonious cooperation between the Government and the
Railway Company ; it has led also to a considerable reduction
of correspondence in both offices.
40. Auditor .—The introduction of the new method of
Railway audit also promises to be successful. It puts the
Government in possession of more complete information with
regard to Railway monetary transactions, affords a trust
worthy audit both to the Government and the Railway Com
pany, and at the same time greatly reduces office correspon
dence.
41. A summary of the year’s work shows a decided
improvement in the management of the Railway, the credit of
which is mainly due to the thoroughly efficient manner in
which the duties of the Agent are at present performed.
BOMBAY, BARODA, AND CENTRAL INDIA
RAILWAY.
42. Line opened during the year .—No additions w r ere
made to the length of the open line during the year; but
the second line of rails was opened between Bombay and
Bandora.
43. Works on unopen Line .—Tolerable progress was
made with the works between the temporary terminus of the
Railway at Bellasis Road and the foreshore of Back Bay, and
the leclamation work in Back Bay itself was vigorously
pushed forward by the Back Bay Reclamation Company, who
expect to be able to complete the breakwater and an embank
ment across the Bay before the close of 1866.
