The Porte has nothing to say (object) to Colonel Gold-
smid’s inspecting the line of Telegraph from Bagdad to Scu
tari as instructed by his immediate superiors. Inform the
Colonel that the Telegraph officers will be directed to do
everything needful to facilitate his affairs.
2. Explain to him clearly, however, that it is at the
request of the Porte that this will be done.
3. The Porte being on the point of deputing Signallers
to the Mosul andDiarbekir Stations, has no intention to avail
itself of our Signallers.
