MEDICAL DEPARTMENT.
During the year 1865-66 the building at Bombay of the
Hospital for the treatment of diseases of the eye has steadily
advanced, and it is expected that it and the adjacent Hospital
for Incurables (Lepers) will be ready at an early date for the
reception of patients. The number of cases treated for eye
disease was 3,032, and operations performed during the year
numbered 312.
2. The arrangements for the projected Native General
Hospital to be situated on the Esplanade in the vicinity of a
thickly populated part of the Native Town are in an advanced
state. The plan for the building has been approved of.
3. At the rising town of Callian, in the North Concan,
the Rookminabaee Dispensary was formally opened in August
1865, and has already been of considerable service. By
request of the founder it will be known in future as “ Mrs.
Munguldass Nuthoobai’s Dispensary. ”
4. The new Civil Hospital at Poona named the “ David
Sassoon Hospital” is not yet finished, but much progress has
been made towards its completion during the year. The
management of the Dispensaries in the Poona Division has
been reported on very favourably. They have afforded relief
to upwards of 7,000 more of the poor than in the previous
year.
5. In the Northern Division the number of persons who
have sought aid from the Dispensaries has exceeded that of the
previous year by upwards of 10,000. At Ahmedabad the
Bechurdass Dispensary was opened on the 1st January 1866.
Under the Rajkote Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. two Dispensaries have been

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1865-66.
