55. The average earnings at Rutnagherry and Ahmednuggur are very creditable. At
Sattara very little has been done in manufactures beyond the prisoners clothing, as they
have chiefly been employed in out-door labour in connection with the Jail. At Honore
no manufactures of any kind have hitherto been carried on ; hence it has been excluded
from the above table. I trust, however, to see it included next year, as arrangements
have been suggested for the introduction of manufactures in this as in other Jails.
56. At Dhoolia the results have not been satisfactory for reasons already explained,
namely, the formation of road gangs, and the transfer of skilled hands from the factory An East India Company trading post.

58. The value of the labour of convict menial servants is not included in the above.
Although money be not actually paid for their services, yet the State is saved the cost
of hired servants. The sum which represents this saving is merely a negative income, and
could not, I think, with justice be included in the above table. It has been excluded
in the Bengal tables. I have, for the sake of uniformity, adopted the same plan.
59. The sums credited to the 2nd and 3rd heads are altogether exclusive of the
road gangs.
