77,011 survey numbers containing 444,913 acres were measured. The average measurement
of " each survey number was about 5| acres. The measurement of 6,736 numbers with an
area of 38,566 acres was tested by European Assistant Superintendents and Native testers,
with the result that in 53 survey numbers errors exceeding 2 per cent, were discovered.
In addition to the measurements already mentioned, the measurement of 33,648 acres,
comprising 7,417 survey numbers, was effected at the time of classification by the measurers
attached to classing establishments. This area was for the most part waste land which
had been applied "for by intending cultivators after the regular measuring establishment
had left the district: it also included fields in which rectification of boundaries was found
necessary. Further, 5,716 acres of jaghir land which had lapsed to Government, or which
was to be finally re-granted to hereditary jaghirdars, were measured in various parts of the
province.
No regular classification was carried on during the year under report. The classing
establishments were employed in making preparations for the introduction of irrigational
settlements, by examining the division of land into survey numbers, and collecting informa
tion as to occupancy rights, &c., Ac. The total area which came under the purview of the
3 classing establishments was 375,357 acres, comprising 71,643 survey numbers. The
work done in 67,733 acres, comprising 12,326 survey numbers, was personally tested by
the Assistants in charge of the establishments.
” The expenditure of the Sind Revenue Survey Department amounted to Rs. 1,49,207.

In Gujar&t the settlement operations consisted in the introduction of original survey
settlement into the indm (free grant), village of Kanjdri in the Nadiad taluka. The survey
operations in this village were carried out on precisely the same principles that were
followed in surveying the khdlsa (State) villages of the taluka. The village had been held
on Narva tenure, which was abolished at the introduction of the settlement in accordance
with a desire expressed by the NarvMfcs (shareholders), and* the ordinary Senja tenure
substituted for it. The result of the introduction of settlement into this village was an
increase of 4 per cent, on the former demand,
