On 3rd May strength of Sappers and Miners was 4098 whereas war estab
lishment including Nos. 96, 85, and 22 Cos. was 3084. Can any of surplus
personnel beyond that accompanying Nos. 1 and 3 Bridging Trains he returned
to India, as reinforcements for N.-W. P. are urgently required.

paragraph 5 including 80 horses for field kitchens sailing on ‘ Sofala’ July 4th
only^TOO Artillery light draught horses at present available for return up to
your category “ A ” standard. In addition approximately 800 light draught
category “ A ” too good for other draught but below your standard will remain
for disposal, here. All other classes required this force, vide my Q.-2160 May
8th 1919. (Dy. No. 35014 ?) I recommend your taking the 800 in view of the
present hostilities.
