It will be seen from the above table that with very few and unimportant exceptions, tin
advances under both Acts decreased very considerably in all districts. The total decrease uniei
the Agriculturists’ Loans Act was Its. 25,25,939 and under the Land Improvements Loans Adi
Rs. 3,56,841. The favourable rainfall is, of course, the reason for the decrease under both Acts,
The only other interesting point is the small increase in some of northern Sind Districts when
the partial introduction of the Dekkhan Agriculturists’ Relief Act frightened the money-lendeii
and drove the rayats to apply for Government help.

year there were only 13 stallions under the control of the Department. The average numb I
during the year was 11 and they covered 284 mares or an average 25*65 each. No mares wen
branded during the year and the system of branding has since been abolished. The percent#
of mares that foaled increased from 31*99 to 37-85. Twenty-five colts were castrated by tit I
Veterinary graduates in the non-selected districts of the
Presidency
The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent.
. A horse-show was hi
at Ahmedabad for the first time after a lapse of 11 years. The animals exhibited numbered
293 and the show Was pronounced a success. In Sind there were no stallions maintainedh !
breeding purposes by any public body. The Hyderabad Local Board maintained one bull whicl|
covered 17 cows during the year. Forty-nine colts were castrated by the various Veterinary
graduates in Sind.
2. Weather and Crops.
1. Meteorological Department oe Western India.
There were 11 second class and 18 third class stations as in the previous year.

days at Belgaum. There were small interruptions at other observatories owino- to particular
instruments being out Oi. order. The usual daily weather report and chart continued to b
published. Three new reporting stations were added during the year, making a total of ^
xtracts from the logs of vessels that touched at the port of Bombay were taken as usual 0
the instruments on board carefully compared.
