Houses at Sujawal, Mirpur Sakro and Rohri were completed at a cost of Rs. 3,515 and Rs. 3,557
and Rs. 5,057 respectively. The conversion of Barrack No. 40 at Sukknr into Judged quarters
and Judicial and Revenue Courts, estimated to cost Rs. 79,727, was practically completed.
Quarters for clerks and warders in -the District Jail at Dharwar, estimated to cost
Rs. 15,060, were commenced, the expenditure during the year being Rs. 5,034. The new Jail
at Karachi and the conversion of the sub-jail at Sukkur into a District Prison, estimated to
cost Rs. 3,53,865 and Rs. 2,31,991 respectively, were in progress.
A new Hospital for the City Police at Byculla, Bombay, estimated to cost Rs, 1,10,567, Police,
was in progress. Police Lines at Ddhanu, estimated to cost Rs. 6,627, were in progress^ The
bungalow for the District Superintendent of Police, Broach, which was in progress in the
previous year, was completed at a cost of Rs. 13,207. Additions to the Police Lines at Dholka
in the Rewa Kantha Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , estimated to cost Rs 3,860, were in progress. A block of 14 rooms
for the Police at R4jpur in the Palanpur Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , commenced in the previous year, was
completed (cost Rs. 4,509). The. work of converting the GaikwaHs Haveli into a Police
Station at Ahmedabad, which was in progress in the previous year, was almost completed except
the bungalow for the Assistant Police Superintendent and Rs. 76,631 were spent to date. New
Mounted Police Lines at Sadra were completed (cost Rs. 43,598). Foot Police Lines at Sddra
and Police Quarters at Satlasna in Mahi Kdntha, estimated to cost Rs. 53,755 and Rs. 4,701
respectively, were m progress. A site at Bhamburda for the New Head Quarter Police Lines
at Poona was acquired and materials to the extent of Rs. 17,309 were purchased. The project
is estimated at Rs. 2,84,000. The Police Lines at Sinnar in the Nasik District were completed
at a total cost of Rs. 12,506 against an estimate of Rs. 12,557. The Police Lines in connection
with the Mahalkari s Kacheri at Bhadgaon in the Kh^ndesh District were completed durino*
the year at at a cost of Rs. 3,402 against an estimated amount of Rs. 3,642. A bungalow
with out-houses for the District Superintendent of Police, Kolaba, estimated to cost Rs. 14,474,
was commenced, the expenditure during the year being Rs. 2,909. The construction of Police
Superintendent s bungalow with out-houses at LdrkMna, Head Quarter Police Lines at Sukkur,
Police Lines at Keti Bandar and Landhi and re-roofing of the rural and armed Police Lines at
Sehwan were completed at costs of Rs. 29,397, Rs. 1,02,918, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,600 and
Rs. 5,247 respectively. New Police Lines at L&rkhana, estimated to cost Rs. 88,910, were
in progress.
The construction of a Vaccination Depot at Parel, Bombay, was in progress and Rs. 51,745 Medical,
were spent up to date. Land was acquired for the extension of the Grant Medical College,
Sir J. J. Hospital, and Chemical Laboratory, Bombay, and an award for Rs. 4,09,411 was
made. . Additions to the Pilgrims 5 Camp at Pir Pao in connection with the annual pilgrimage
to Hedjaz were carried out at a cost of Rs. 11,437. In connection with St. George’s Hospital
at Bombay, the construction of (1) Female Hospital, (2) Sweepers 5 Quarters, (3) Steward and
Warrant Officers 5 Quarters, (4) Servants’ Quarters, (5) Small-pox Pavilion and (6) Mortuary
estimated to cost Rs. 54,488 (for plinth only), Rs. 8,377, Rs. 51,199, Rs. 43,334, Rs. 26,172
and Rs. 7,803, respectively, were in progress and certain additions to the Laundry were carried
out and certain fittings provided at a cost of Rs. 3,425. Improvements to the drains of the
Lunatic Asylum at Colaba, Bombay, were carrried out at a cost of Rs. 9,486. Extra works
were carried out at the Narotamdas Madhavdas Lunatic Asylum at Nowapada, near Th&na, at a
cost of Rs. 25,517 and a sum of Rs. 2,904 was spent on the erection of an oil engine and a pump.
An infectious ward at M^theran was completed at a cost of Rs, 6,174. The work of providing
Hospital accommodation for eight patients and quarters for Hospital Assistant, Lunatic Asylum
at Ahmedabad, was commenced and completed (cost Rs. 5,618). The work of sanitary improve
ments to the Sassoon Hospital at Poona was in progress, Rs. 50,452 having been expended on
t e work up to date. The work of removing the European Plague Hospital from the Alexandra
otel and erecting it near the Sangam Bridge was completed at a cost of Rs. 2,812 against the
estimated amount of Rs. 2,914. A Dispensary at Indapur in the Poona District, estimated to
cos s. 5,581, was in progress. Cells for insane patients and infectious disease wards in the
JLpon Hospital at Ahmednagar were built at a cost of Rs. 12,139. Dispensaries at Shrigonda
an ^ Kopargaon (Local) both in the Ahmednagar District were completed at a cost of Rs. 6,147
and Rs. b 594 respectively. A new Civil Hospital with ont-houses at Dhulia, estimated to cost

Jxnandesn District was practically completed during the year at an expenditure of Rs. 7,413
against the estimate of Rs. 7,435. The dispensaries at Chikodi (cost Rs. 11,769) and Khanapur
{post Rs. 13, 387) in the Belganm District, which were commenced in the previous year, were
almost completed. The construction of the dispensary at Hangal in-the Dharwar District
{cost Rs. 9,183) and the work of extending the compound wall of the Civil Hospital at Satara
{cost Rs. 0,240), both of which were commenced in previous year, were completed. Contagious
iseases waids in the Civil Hospital at Hyderabad were commenced, and the expenditure
during the year was Rs. 7,606. The Hospital Assistant’s quarters at Badin were completed at
a cost ot Rs. 2,704. The construction of a Dispensary at Khairpur Natheshah (Local) was
