BOMBAY ADMINISTRATION REPORT.

6. Four hundred and sixty-six documents were registered against 539 last year,
from Rs. 3,898 to Rs. 3,564.
7. The total expenditure was Rs. 47,646. The gross earnings of the Cambay
amounted to Rs. 32,199.
8. The total receipts and expenditure were Rs. 4,98,235 and Rs. 3,82,193
Rs. 5,54,263 and Rs. 3,50,675, respectively, last year.
9. The four medical institutions had an average daily attendance of 377 against 391 U
year. The cost rose to Rs, 7,553.
10. The number of births was 2,058 or 27*3 per milk and of deaths 2,450 or 32*5 „
milk, against ratios per milk of 23’06 and 30*25, respectively, in the previous year, 1
11. The municipality of Cambay had an income of Rs. 9,592 and an expenditure of
Rs. 13,183, the deficit, as usual, being made up by the State.
12. The 26 schools had an average daily attendance of 1,480*77 as against 1,311'75 ^
year. The cost of education rose from Rs. 14,131 to Rs. 19,743.

]. The group consists of the three States of Dharampur, Bansda and Sachin, all of which
are second class States. The Sachin State is administered by an Assistant Collector uudei

2. . The season was favourable in Dharampur, less favourable in Bansda and unfavourable
in Sachin. Crops failed in some villages of the last named State, and scarcity of drinking water
and fodder was also felt in some parts.
3. Kaliparaj preponderate in Dharampur and Bansda, They are very backward M
their condition shows signs of gradual improvement. The Mahomedan population is generallj
poor and backward. The few Parsis are generally well-to-do.
4. The survey of all these States is now completed, except that of six villages of
Dharampur which have been given out on lease.
5. The total strength of the Police force was 364 and its total cost Rs. 38,678. Offence
reported to the Police numbered 164 as against 202. Two hundred and ninety persons wer f
arrested, 281 sent for trial and 227 convicted—a percentage of 96*9. Property valued at
Rs. 10,950 was alleged to have been stolen and of this Rs. 10,347 were recovered—a percents^
of 94*49.
6. Three hundred and thirty-two offences were reported to the Police. In connection
with these, 588 persons were brought to trial of whom 262 were convicted.
7. There were three prisons in which 183 persons were confined during the yean Tim
total cost of the Jail and Prisons amounted to Rs. 5,624.
8. _ There were 327 suits for disposal as against 439 last year. Of these 299 were dispose!
of, leaving arrears of 28. There were five appeals and all were disposed of. During* the y ea ‘
616 applications for the execution of decrees were received ; of these 287 were disposed of an!
329 remained in arrears.
9. One hundred and sixty-seven documents realising Rs. 788 in fees were registered^
against Rs. 206 and Rs. 834 last year.
10. Dharampur and Bansda are municipal towns but no taxes are levied. The expendko^
amounting to Rs. 2,227 and Rs. 1,733 was borne by the States,
