1. Course of Legislation.
Four Acts were passed by tbe Council of His Excellency the Governor of Bombayli
making* Laws and Regulations and assented to by His Excellency the Viceroy and Govern®
General of India during the year commencing April 1st, 1904'.
These were—
(1) Act No. I of 1904 (An Act for further shortening the language used in Bonify
Acts and for other purposes).
(2) Act No. II of 1904 (An Act to regulate the use of Motor-vehicles in the Bonify
Presidency
The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent.
).
(8) Act No. Ill of 1904 (An Act to amend the Khoti Settlement Act, 1880).
(4) Act No. IV of 1904 (An Act further to amend the Bombay District Municipi
Act, 1901).
The object of Act No. I of 1904 was to substitute for the Bombay General Clauses M
1886 (Bom. Ill of 1886), a measure more up-to-date and efficient for the object in view,®
the shortening of the language in enactments of the Bombay Legislative Council, and til
providing for uniformity of expression in cases where there was identity of subject-matter.
Act No. II of 1904 was designed to control the growing traffic in Motor- vehicles all
to provide for the safety of the public against the use oE such vehicles by reckless®
unskilled persons.
Act No. Ill of 1904 was passed to remedy certain defectsin the Khoti Settlement Act,
and chiefly to fix a standard for the recovery of rent from the occupancy-tenant by tbe Khot
The chief object of Act No. IV of 1904 was to empower Municipalities to prescribe If
by-law, subject to the usual sanctions, the standard weights to be used within their districts.
Four Bills were introduced into the Council of His Excellency the Governor

These were—
(1) Bill No. I of 1904 (A Bill to establish a Court of Wards in the Bofflfy
Presidency

The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai] in 1905.
