PUBLIC WORKS,
completed at an expenditure of Rs. 49,933. The Local Fund Veterinary Dispensary at
Jalgaon in the Khandesh District, cpmmenced last year, was completed at a cost ofRs. 7,434.
The work of constructing buildings in connection with the Veterinary Dispensary at Dhulia
was completed during the year at a cost of Rs. 3,336. The dispensaries at Chikodi (cost
Rs. 12,099) and Khanapur (cost Rs. 13,820) in the Belgaum District, in progress in the
previous year, were completed. A dispensary at Hirekerur in the Dharwar District was
commenced and Rs. 9,069 were expended. The work is approaching completion. The
Contagious Diseases Ward in the Civil Hospital at Hyderabad, which was commenced last
year, was completed at a total outlay of Rs. 8,400. The construction of an Infectious Diseases
Ward for the Civil Hospital at Sukkur was commenced and Rs. 2,998 were spent. The
Dispensary and Septic Ward of the new Civil Hospital at Karachi were commenced and
nearly completed, and an expenditure of Rs. 31,384 and Rs. 33,114, respectively, was
incurred. Land was also acquired for the new Civil Hospital at Karachi and an award
of Rs. 22,471 was made.
The renewal of the peons’ huts at Chowpatty and Wodehouse Bridge, Bombay, was
carried out at a cost of Rs. 4,050. Huts for the peons of the Customs Department at Tank
Bandar and Health Camp for Government servants at the Wodehouse Bridge, Bombay, were
erected at a cost of Rs. 10,169 and Rs. 6,961 respectively. The bungalow on the Parsik Hill
.at Thana for the Executive Engineer, Thdna District, was completed at a cost of Rs. 13,286.
Additions and alterations to the Superintendent's Office at Mdther4,n were carried out at a
cost of Rs. 7,196. Thef arm buildings at .Nadidd were completed at a cost of Rs. 7,700..
The construction of the Agricultural Buildings at the Manjri Farm was in progress, the
expenditure being Rs. 7,995. The building for the Poona Branch of the Bank of Bombay
was completed at a cost of Rs. 17,894. The construction of a store and work-shed in the
compound of the Public Works Department Sub-divisional Office at Sholapur, commenced
last year, was completed at a total cost of Rs. 4,241. Additions and alterations to the exist
ing Public Works Department Offices at Nasik to accommodate the office of the Executive
Engineer, Nasik and Ahmednagar Irrigation District, were made at a cost of Rs. 4,344
Additions and alterations to the Executive Engineer's Office at Dhulia, estimated to cost
Rs. 2,774, were in progress during the year. Additions and alterations to the Local Fund
Workshop at Dhulia were completed at "a cost of Rs, 5,082. The buildings in connection
with the Experimental Farm at Dh&rw&r were commenced and Rs. 17,592 expended. A
store and record-room in the office of the Executive Engineer, Shikarpur Canals, at Sukkur,
was constructed at a cost of Rs, 2,802. The work of roofing the market at Old Thul in the
Upper Sind Frontier District (Local), estimated to cost Rs. 2,939, was completed at a cost of
Rs, 2,083. Additions and alterations to the office block in the compound of the bungalow
of the Executive Engineer, Western Nara, at Ldrkana, were carried out at a cost of
Rs. 2,886.
2.—Communications.
During the year Rs. 5,56,288 were expended on original works connected with roads.
Out of this Rs. 2,97,312 were provided by Provincial and Rs. 2,58,976 by Local Funds.
