The drainage of the City of Ahmedabad, a municipal work, was in progress, the total
expenditure being Es. 2,78,978.
Metalling the kutcha road from Broach Bunder to Bechraji Owara was completed, and
a bar in the river Narbada at Kukerwada was constructed, the expenditure incurred being
Es. 7,755 and Rs. 8,708, respectively, which was met from the Northern Group Ports Fund.

The construction of a road between the Times of India Press and the 'Anjuman-i-Islam Miscellaneous.
School building and the work of providing and fixing 3" cast iron water-pipe and hydrants
to the Queen’s Parade Road, Bombay, were completed at a cost of Rs. 3,650 and Rs. 3,669
respectively.
MILITARY WORKS.
The following stations were under the control of the Public Works Department during
the year
Baroda, Bhuj, Ahmedabad and Rajkot, in the 5th (Mhow) Division ,* Khandala,
in the Bombay Brigade; Sirur and Pnrandhar, in the Poona Division ; Ahmednagar and
S&tdra, in the Ahmednagar Brigade.
The construction of a slaughtery for the Sanitarium at Khanddla was in progress, the Buildings in tho
expenditure during the year being Rs. 3,500 against the estimate of Rs. 10,129. A laundry plains. °
in the Station Hospital at Ahmednagar was constructed at a cost of Rs. 2,962. The hutments,
outside the Fort at Ahmednagar, were tiled at a cost of Rs. 3,335. The work of constructing
two additional rooms to the Royal Artillery Cook-house at Ahmednagar was completed
at a cost of Rs. 3,240. Huts for the temporary accommodation of the two companies of
British Infantry transferred to Ahmednagar were purchased for Rs. 6,952. An armoury for
Native Infantry Lines at Ahmednagar was constructed at a cost of Rs. 6,748. Materials for
improvements to existing accommodation in British Infantry Lines at Ahmednagar were
purchased for Rs. 4,984.
Quarters for the Commissariat Sergeant at Ahmednagar were constructed at a cost of Commissariat
Rs. 6,980. buildings.
Farm Overseer’s quarters in the Remount Depot at Ahmednagar were extended at a Studs,
cost of Rs. 1,815.
The expenditure on original works in connection with the water-supply toKirkee during Water-supply,
the year was Rs. 2,485. The head-works at the Pashan Tank and the distribution mains in
Kirkee, including the service pipes of the Military Buildings, were maintained in an efficient
state at a cost of Rs. 3,431. On the 18th April 1904, the level of the water in the tank fell
below the F. S. L. of the filters and the supply could not therefore be filtered after that date.
Owing to want of replenishment in the rainy season and consequent failure of the supply
from the tank, the supply to Kirkee was maintained from the 17th of August by pumping
from the Mula River.
No other new works of importance were carried out during the year, operations being Minor works and
confined to minor works and maintenance and repairs of existing buildings, water-supply rc P air3 ‘
works and cantonment roads.
FAMINE RELIEF WORKS IN CHARGE OF THE PUBLIC

Owing to the failure of rains in 1904, it was found necessary to open the following as
