This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2416/130506. It is the second in a series of twenty-eight items on the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. ; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; and Lieutenant James Tronson, commanding the Honourable Company’s brig Euphrates .

The item mostly concerns the preparations being made by Sheik Mahomed ben Khuleefa, Chief of Bahrein [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah, Ruler of Bahrain], in anticipation of an attack by the sons of Sheik Abdoolla ben Ahmed [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah], the former Ruler of Bahrein. While currently based on the island of Kenn [Kish], they are reportedly planning to move to Khor ul Adeed [Khawr al ‘Udayd, also rendered as Khor-al-Adeed in the item] in preparation for an attack on Bahrein. The question of how far Britain should interfere is discussed. There is also a letter from the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company relating to this subject.

The item also refers to several other subjects relating to Sheik Mahomed ben Khaleefa, including the capture of a ship from Karrack [Jazireh-ye Khark] by a party of the Bene Huajier [Banū Hājir] while travelling on a vessel lent to them by Sheik Mahomed.
