famine relief. The net revenue derived from all classes of works was about
46^ lakhs One lakh is equal to one hundred thousand rupees .
The total area irrigated from the Deccan and Gujarat Works, for which
Capital and Revenue Accounts are kept, was 145,155 acres against 142,928 i n
the previous year. The gross assessed revenue also rose from Rs. 10,99,014 to
Rs. 11,22,916.
The area irrigated by all classes of works in bind was 2,936,523 acres
against 3,354,738 in the previous year. The gross assessed revenue amounted to
Rs. 76,94,804 of which Rs. 3,32,171 were on account of direct and Rs. 73,62,633
on account of indirect receipts, the corresponding figures for 1908-1909 being
Rs. 82,54,210 (Rs. 3,53,073 direct and Rs. 79,01,137 indirect).
Owing to good rain in the catchment areas the total area irrigated from
theHathmati and the Khari Cut Canals was 21,398 acres and the gross revenue
amounted to Rs. 1,00,085. These figures are considerably in excess of those
for last year which were the highest on record. There was no irrigation under
the Tranza-Nagrama Tanks owing to deficiency of water. For the same reason
the Wangroli Tank irrigated only 438 acres compared with 1,921 in the
previous year. The area irrigated from the new Savli Tank increased to
1,569 acres. The gross revenue from the two latter tanks amounted to
Pts, 6,020 compared with Rs. 10,693 in the preceding year.
On the Girna River, the Chankapur Storage Works were approaching
completion. The Girna Left Bank Canal was completed and opened for rabi
irrigation. Satisfactory progress was made with the Godaveri Canal project,
despite the difficulty of obtaining labour. This work is estimated to cost over
05i lakhs One lakh is equal to one hundred thousand rupees and the gross area commanded by the projected canals is 239,698
acres of the Aasik and Ahmednagar Districts. Work was in progress on the
1 ravara Canals during the year. In Poona District the demand for water for
monsoon crops r ai sed the area irrigated from the Nira Canal above the average
ot the past ten years but the area irrigated from the Mhaswad Tank decreased

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1909-10.
