The Satara Jaghirs comprise the five States mentioned above. The wife General,
of the late brother of the Chief of Aundh and his youngest son Jagatjeewanrao
died during the year. In response to an appeal made by Her Excellency Lady
Llcyd in connection with the Children’s Welfare scheme the Chief sent a
donation of two pearls for the Children’s Welfare necklace. The wife of the
Chief of Phaltan gave birth to a daughter during the year. The Chief con
tributed Rs. 200 to the “-Children’s Guild of service”, Rs. 904 to the
u Children’s Welfare necklace”, Rs. 292 to the “Wrestling Tournament,
Poona ”, Rs. 200 to the “ Maharashtra Girls’ Education Society ”, Rs. 602 to
the “Indian Olympic Association” and Rs. 360 to the “King Edward
Memorial Hospital, Poona ”. The grand daughter of the Chief of Bhor
Shrimati Soubhagyavati Janhavibai gave birth to a son on the 13th March
1920. The Chief gave donations to various objects and institutions, the most
important among them being Rs. 10,000 for expenditure in connection with
the Afghan war, Rs. 1,000 to the funds of the New Poona College of the
Shikshana Mandali, Poona, Rs. 5,000 to the Indian War Relief Fund,
Bs. 1,000 to the Fund started by Field Marshall Sir Dougl as Haig for helping
wounded officers, and Rs. 1,000 for the Children’s Welfare scheme. Shrimati
Soubhagyavati, Ranisaheb of Jath, gave birth to a son on the 6th March
1920. The Chief gave donations of Rs. 1,900 for relief to dependants of
deceased soldiers, Rs. 250 to the Children’s Welfare scheme and Rs. 200 to
the band of the 111th Marathas.

There was insufficient rain for Kharif sowing in Phaltan and Jatb, but
sufficient for rabi sowing in Aundh, Phaltan and Akalkot. The prices of
food-stuffs fell to a certain extent owing to the favourable season, but they
have not come down to the normal. Labour was in demand in all the
a ghirs and the labourers as a class have much improved on account of the
nse in their wages. On the whole the general condition of the people was

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India.
