The inereas 6 in Court-fees is due to increase in number of suits and appeals
and certificates of heirship, and in other documents. The decrease in fines and
unclaimed estates calls for no special remarks. The decrease in miscellaneous
fees is due to fees levied in 1891-92 on large estates administered by the Court,
and which were handed over to the owners on their attaining majority.
247. The expenditure of the Court, being the pay of the establishment
from the Registrar downwards and contingent
charges, amounted to Rs. 11,999 against Rs. 11,626
Expenditure.
Jn the previous year. The increase is due to the personal allowance made to
two interpreters, and the increase in the pay of 6 peons of the Cpurt sanctioned
from 1st April 1892.

•248. 210 suits of the value of Rs. 2,657 were decided by the Assistant
Resident as Judge of the Court of Small Causes against
184 of the value of Rs. 2,577. Of these suits 153
Civil Suits.
$vere contested and decided, 57 were otherwise disposed of, and none remained
in hand at the end of the year.
249. Court-fee stamps of the value of Rs. 463-10-0 were sold for plaints
. and processes, and the amount of fines inflicted
amounted to Rs. 1$ 1-12-0,

250. Duriiig the year under report, the Court of the Resident at Aden
was not called upon to adjudicate any slave trade or
other cases within the jurisdiction of the Colonial
Slave Trade.

251. On the 16th September 1892^ Her Majesty’s Ship “ Pigeon brought
two bugalows which were detained by her on suspicion of having been engaged
in the slave trade. An enquiry was held at the request of the Commander to
determine whether the case should be brought up before the Aden Court, and
it ^appeared that no primd facie case had been established that the vessels were
engaged in slave trade, and even if it had, the Court of the Resident had no
jurisdiction, as the vessels were under the Turkish flag, and, in accordance with
the Treaty of 1880 with Turkey, atid fSectipn 49 of the Brussels Act, they were
