CHAPTER II.
General and Political.
1. The Settlement of Aden comprises the following divisions :—(1) The
Aden-General. peninsula and isthmus or Aden proper, which has an
area of about 21 square miles and a population
of 36,876 souls ; (2) Sheikh Othman, inclusive of Imad and Hiswa, which has
an area of 39 square miles and a population of 7,656 souls ; (3) Little Aden,
with 15 square miles and 334 population, and (4) the Island of Perim, with
5 square miles and 1,299 population. The total area of the Settlement is about
80 square miles wdth a population of 46,165 souls. The gross revenue of the
Settlement, based on the average receipts of the Aden Treasury during the
past five years, is Rs. 70,26,562.
2. l or legal purposes Aden forms part of British India and is under the
Administrative machinery.i control of the Governor of Bombay in Council. It
is administered by a
