BOMBAY, 1925-26
Act No. XIV of 1925 (An Act to amend the Bombay V:,
Punchayats Act, 1920).
Act No. XV of 1925 (An Act further to amend the Bombay
District Municipal Act, 1901, was passed with the object cf
removing certain disqualifications).
Act No. XVII of 1925 (An Act further to amend the Bombay
Port Trust Act, 1879).
Of the twenty-two Government Bills mentioned above, fourteen
became law. The remaining Bills reached various stages; while
of the eighteen Bills from private members two were passed and
received the assent of the Governor-General, three were read for
the first time and referred to Select Committees, four were merely
published in the Bombay Government Gazette. In two cases
motion for the first reading was lost and in one case motion
was not made. Three bills were withdrawn, one was ruled
out of order, one lapsed owing to its mover having ceased
to be a member of the Council, and one was struck off the
register.
The budget discussion lasted for 12 days and resulted in a cut
of Rs. 17,613. There were 8 divisions none of which, however,
was carried against Government. During the year the Standing
Orders also underwent some changes but the work of the Council
by way of Resolutions increased considerably in volume. Fifty-
four Resolutions were moved as against twenty in the previous
year and of these fourteen were carried, fifteen negatived,
twenty-two were withdrawn, and further consideration of
three was postponed. The Resolutions which were carried
recommended to Government:—
(1) “ That a mixed committee of official and non-official
members of the Council, with a majority of the latter, be
appointed to inquire into the whole question of the Fallow
Rules in Sind and to make such recommendations as they
may please for the modifications, revision or repeal of any of
the said rules which they consider to operate unfairly upon the
zamindar. The Committee should consider whether the
zammdars have a lien on forfeited lands and if so on what
conditions they should be restored.”

tional inspector (in addition to one Urdu deputy) and three
assistant deputy educational inspectors.”
(3) “ To be pleased to give every facility to the Mahomedans
of the city of Bombay to perform their Id prayers on the
Esplanade Maidan twice a year.”

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1925-26. The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai], in 1927.
The report is divided into two parts. Part I (ff 697-709) comprises a report ‘GENERAL SUMMARY’, consisting of: [Political]; Finance; Trade and Commerce; Agriculture; Department of Agriculture; Instruction; Law and Justice; Police and Crime; Bombay City Police; Public Health; Salt; Excise; Forests; the Co-operative Movement; Public Works; Bombay Development Department.
