INDUSTRIES
under the Indian Electricity Act, 1910, have been given for
Gadag and Hubli and proposals for electrification of the towns
of Dharwar, Bijapur and Belgaum are under the consideration
of Government.
The public motor services had a good year and are increasing.
Bombay Suburban Division.—There was hardly any change
from the previous year as far as the general depression in trade
and industry was concerned. No new industry was started in
the district during the year.
The principal trades and industries in the division were :—
(a) Salt manufacture in the villages of Trombay, Mahul,
Bhandup, Ghatkopar and Goregaon.
(6) The fishing trade at Bandra, Danda, Versowa and
Trombay.
(c) The palm and brab trees in the South Salsette taluka
are a good source of income to Government, there being
a considerable demand for toddy in this taluka.
(d) There are two textile mills at Kurla and one at
Ghatkopar and a large plant and

(e) There are six match factories, one each at Ghatkopar,
Kurla, Bandivli, Vile Parle, Dahisar and Ambernath.

and aluminium and silver factories at Vile Parle.
(1) There are glass factories at Kurla and Chembur and a

(j) Stone quarrying has been carried out in the villages of
Malavni, Gorai, Dharoli, Marol and Akurh. The Malavni
quarries are famous for their superior building stone and the
Akurli quarries supply good filling in material and are utilised
on a large scale for the Back Bay Reclamation.
(A) There are brickkilns of modern type at Kurla and Marol.
() Lime is manufactured in large quantities in the villages
of Kurla, Marwa, Gorai and Malavni.

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1925-26. The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai], in 1927.
The report is divided into two parts. Part I (ff 697-709) comprises a report ‘GENERAL SUMMARY’, consisting of: [Political]; Finance; Trade and Commerce; Agriculture; Department of Agriculture; Instruction; Law and Justice; Police and Crime; Bombay City Police; Public Health; Salt; Excise; Forests; the Co-operative Movement; Public Works; Bombay Development Department.
