This item comprises copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. Secret Department to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , Number 108 of 1846, dated 29 September 1846. The enclosures are dated 28 August-24 September 1846.

The papers comprise a report by Captain Atkins Hamerton, HM Consul and Honourable Company’s Agent in the Dominions of the Imaum [Imaum] of Muscat, based in Zanzibar, to the Chief Secretary to Government, Bombay, and Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . Hamerton reports the Imaum’s ‘intimation to his Officers at his ports on the Coast of Africa and other places within his Dominions, and to the chiefs in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. in conformity with the provision of the Treaty concluded between His Highness and the British Government on 2nd October 1845, for suppressing the exportation of slaves from His Highness’ African possessions’. Also included are letters from the Secretary to the Government, Bombay, forwarding the news to the Government of India and expressing the approbation of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India.
