The file relates to the Iraqi-Afghan Treaty of Friendship, including: the draft proposal; signing in December 1932; ratification by both countries in Tehran, September 1934; and an additional proposed protocol in 1936 for close consultation and co-operation between the two countries in all matters concerning their common interests and for such co-operation to be exercised within the spirit of the League of Nations Covenant and to not override the obligations undertaken in other treaties already concluded by them.

Included in the file are: draft typescripts (f 41 and f 27) and the final text (f 23) of the 1932 Treaty, in French; and a draft typescript of the protocol of 1936 (f 11).

The file also contains a copy of a letter to the British Foreign Minister from the British Ambassador at Bagdad [Baghdad], dated 3 January 1936, detailing the visit to Iraq by Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Faiz Muhammad Khan [Sirdār Fayz̤ Muḥammad Khān], Afghan Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the latter’s discussions with Iraqi Foreign Minister Nuri Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. [Nūrī al-Sa’īd] during which he urges the strengthening of Afghan-Iraqi relations and a common policy in relation to the Persian [Iranian] Government.
