General letter from Mocha to the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company, dated 19 August 1721, and signed by William Phipps, Henry Albert, Thomas Rammell and Francis Dickinson. It was received via the ship Aislabie on 22 April 1722, and read in the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. on 25 April 1722.
The letter discusses matters including: the Imaum’s [Imam of Oman's] answer to the Supervisor’s letter; the activities of the private merchant Mr Curgenven, and the general issue of English merchants residing or trading at Mocha without being under the Rules of the Factory An East India Company trading post. , which was seen to be prejudicial to the authority of the East India Company; and the recommendation that Mr Edward Say be removed from the Mocha Factory An East India Company trading post. and ‘carried to Bombay to answer for his mismanagement’.
