Sheikh Jaber received a letter from his father, Sheikh Mubarck, in which it was
stated that “ as regards the province of Nejd, the whole of it has submitted
to me without opposition, and I have now appointed Abdul Aziz-bin-Feysal as
Governor of Riadh. I have also appointed Governors to other places in the
province, and am now in my camp opposite Kaseem, where I am awaiting
Sheikh Sadun. After his arrival I hope to march against Hayel. I must
also pursue Ibn Rashid, as I have now come to know where he is. lie is three
days from Hayel and is running away to avoid meeting us, with some of the
Shammar Arabs who are with him. I hope shortly to take Hayel and put a
stop to your anxieties. As regards Hamood’s sons who sued for peace, I did
not comply with their request, as they did not agree to my terms and I have
not given them anything. Sheikh Sadun has promised to join me on 22nd
February, and I will go (with him on his arrival) towards Hayel. I have
nothing to complain of the troops or the climate. By the grace of God I have
conquered the whole province of Nejd without opposition and bloodshed, and
hope shortly to take Hayel and kill Ibn Rashid
On the 23rd February, Abdul Aziz-bin-Salem-el-Badr, Sheikh Mubarek’s
Basrah agent, came by sea to Koweit and is putting up in Sheikh labor’s
house. I have not heard why he has come, but should I hear anything about
him I will let you know.
Translation of a Report from the Residency News Agent at Koweit, dated the 4 th March 1901.
I beg to report that on 27th February Sheikh Mubarek marched out
of the province of Nejd with the intention of attacking Hayel, the territory
belonging to Ibn Rashid. He is accompanied by Sheikh Sadun of Muntafik
and Abdul Rahman-bin-Feysal. The whereabouts of Ibn Rashid are not known
yet, but Sheikh Mubarak has learnt where he now is. On 28th February, Ibn
Rashid left Akuyeh bound for his territory which he was trying to reach
before Sheikh Mubarek’s arrival there. They are bound to encounter each
other and the battle will be a decisive one. Up till now no news has been
received from Sheikh Mubarek as to what he has been doing, but we are
awaiting the arrival of a messenger who is expected here in a day or two, and
I will report further later on.
As regards Zubeir, the Wali (of Basrah) Mohsin Pasha sent (to Zubeir)
100 soldiers who are to remain there as a guard. The sons of Muhammad Sabah
and Jerrah Sabah (the late brothers of Sheikh Mubarek) who were living in
Zubeir, seeing the power of the (Turkish) Government, quietly left Zubeir one
night to join Ibn Rashid. They were afraid of their lives because the (Turkish)
Government consider them disloyal.
By the grace of God Koweit and the environs are safe, and Sheikh Jaber is
attending to their protection.
