The file relates to a passion play The tragedy of Imam Hussein written by Lewis Pelly which was published in 1879.
Included are a list of scenes written by Pelly, with pencil ticks denoting those scenes selected for publication; manuscript copies of two scenes which were not published; and notes on humour and politics within the play and a brief history of some local rulers in Sind.
The correspondence is dated 13 March to 19 July 1879 and covers the printing and publication of the play, reviews of it and arranging complimentary copies for friends and interested parties.
The file has been dated as c .1879 as although the correspondence is dated the papers relating to the play itself are not and are likely to have been written sometime before its publication in 1879.
