territory, or consents in writing to his being registered as a
British subject.
59. (,/) A person born in Kuwait, being the child of a
British subject, may be registered as a British subject it it is
proved that the (1) father was registered as a Hntish subject,
or (2), being entitled, was prevented from being so registered
by causes for which he was not responsible.
(h) The Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. may, without fee, register any
British subjects, being minors, living in the houses ot
foreigners or Kuwait subjects.
(JO (a) British subjects and British-protected persons
are prohibited from alienating to or acquiring from any per
son of whatever nationality any land or household properly
within the dominions of the Shaikh; either by gift, pur
chase mortgage, or other form of conveyance, without due
execution of signature and registration previous to the
transfer of such property by the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. .
\nv British subject charged with any breach of this
paragraph shall be liable to. and on conviction punishable
under this Order by, a fine up to 500 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. , or to the total
value of the property purporting to be so transferred, or
imprisonment up to one calendar month or both.
(h) Any such deed, or instrument of gift, purchase,
mortgage, "or other form of conveyance, purporting to
transfer propertv otherwise than in accordance with the pro
visions of GO (a) may, on that ground alone, be declared void
and of no effect by any Court acting under this Order.
61. A register of companies incorporated or registered
in the United "Kingdom or in any British TVssession and
carrying on business in Kuwait, shall be kept in the lolitiea)
Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. . .
62. On the registration of a company at the Political
Akency there shall be deposited and filed a copy ot the
certificate of incorporation of the company or other docu
ment corresponding thereto, a statement showing the nonuna
capital of the company and the amounts thereof which have
been subscribed and paid up respectively, and, it the com-
panv has been incorporated under a law which provides for
the "periodical filing of a list of the shareholders, a cop> ot
the last list so filed.

64.—(1) Everv company registered under this Order
shall register the name and address of the manager or other
chief local representative in Kuwait, and shall from time to
time, as maybe necessary, register an v alteration ot it
% representative of the company or m his address.
(2> Rules of Court made under Article 08 may provide
that service of writs, notices, or other documents upon the
person registered under this article, or at his address, shall
be good service of such documents upon the company.
65. Registration of a company under this Order shall
not require to be renewed annually, but nia\ n leiu ut
from time to time as the parties may desire, and must
renewed when any change takes place in the name of the
company.
66. On everv registration of a company under this Or
der, and on everv Venewal thereof, there shall he l )a y ah,< '^ ^
of 10 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. , and on every registration under Article b4 (1>
there shall be payable a fee of I rupee.
67.—(1) A companv shall not be entitled to be reeog-
nised or protected as a British company unless it is registered
under this Order, but shall, although not so registered, be
subject to the jurisdiction of the I ourts established b\ his
Order. • , i
(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the right <>f t he
Secretary of State to direct that the British protection shall
not be accorded to a company, even though it has been regis
tered under this Order.

Papers relating to the composition, drafting and publication of The Kuwait Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. , 1925 (His Majesty's Stationery Office, 1925). The volume includes papers relating to initial objections and subsequent agreement on the part of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jabir as-Subah [Sheikh Ahmad al-Jabir Al Sabah], the ruler of Kuwait, to the exercise by the representative of the British Government of jurisdiction over the subjects and protected persons of all non-Muslim foreign governments in Kuwait, including a letter of agreement from the Sheikh written in Arabic, November - December 1925; Rules of Court relating to fees, October 1926; papers relating to the registration of British subjects in Kuwait, November 1925 - December 1926; and papers relating to the regularisation of the position of American missionaries in Kuwait, so that, if the need arose, they would be entitled to British protection, February - December 1928.

Arrangement

The papers are arranged in approximately chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation system in use commences on the title page and continues to the last folio that bears any text (seven folios from the end of the volume). The sequence appears written in pencil, enclosed in a circle, in the top right hand recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. page of each folio. Foliation anomalies: folio 1 is followed by folios 1A, 1B and 1C. Folio 186 needs to be folded out in order to be read. A second sequence also appears, again written in pencil in the top right hand corner of most of the folios, but not enclosed within a circle. This appears to start at [3] on folio 4 and continues to 287 on folio 254. This sequence marks all pages bearing text.
