About this record
- Content
Letter in response to a letter Pelly wrote as Officiating Chief Commissioner of Ajmere [Ajmer] regarding the alteration of the rates of payment of the Government revenue by the Thakoors (nobility) of the Ajmere district.
Pelly had proposed to fix the collection of the rates on the public and Khureef (first crop cut) harvests of the 1 July and 1 January respectively, however Aitchison is concerned that this is too large a margin and that a smaller collection period would be more beneficial.
The letter concludes by asking Pelly to confirm with Captain Herbert Repton what the chief staples of the Khureef and Rubbee (second cut) crops are within his district, and the approximate dates that these are harvested.
The verso The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. of folio 48 contains two notes from Pelly dated 24 october 1873, the first appears to be a brief to-do list; the second is instructions for making copies of correspondence. There is also a note from Maynard dated 25 October 1873 confirming that the instructions have been undertaken.
