The letter relates to compensation payments made by Kemball's predecessor, Samuel Hennell, to Sheikh Sultan bin Suggar [Sultan bin Saqr], in the wake of an incident of plunder against Sheikh Sultan's people. Kemball writes that, in an interview with Sheikh Sultan on his recent trip to the Arab Coast, he enquired as to whether and how the compensation had been distributed to the appropriate persons, and relates the outcome of that conversation in his letter to Malet.
