About this record

Content

The letter is an acknowledgement of receipt of Jones’s earlier letters relating to the attack on Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] by the deposed Shaikh of that place, Saeed bin Tahnoon [Sa’id bin Tahnun]. The letter encloses a copy of a Resolution by the Board (folios 56-57), dated 6 November 1856, which emphasises that, in spite of a lack of clarity over who committed the theft of goods from Abu Dhabi, those that instigated the attack (including the Joasmee [ Qāsimī One of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates; also used to refer to a confederation of seafaring Arabs led by the Qāsimī tribe from Ras al Khaima. ] chief, Sultan bin Saqr) should be held ultimately responsible. The board awaits further report from the Resident into the matter
