Content

The letter is a covering letter, relating to the purchase of slaves by Indian pilgrims at Lingah [Bandar-e Lengeh]. Enclosed with the letter is an extract of paragraph 2 of despatch no.30 of 1855 (folio 174) from the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 19 December 1855. The extract notes with pleasure the fines imposed upon the pilgrims, and acknowledges that there is no law under which they can be punished on their return to India.
