1/ enclose herev.ith a copy of a letter and of an
*Alan which I have received from Shaikh Hamad. As you will
see the letter is dated the 6th February and the ’Alan the
7th February, and this communication reached me about mid
day on the 7th. «f
2. I wrote to Belgrave complaining that this rather
silly idea had only been disclosed to me at the last moment,
remarking that I thought the ’Alan was most unsuitable for
Bahrain (maliks and sarur malikis l), and adding that British
subjects cannot be given the ’’order” without prior approval.
3. I y office is unable to find any rules o * regulations
about Orders and Decorations invented by States in India,
though I know that there have been plenty of them. Nor is
there anything in my copy of the Political Department an-
ual. I should be most grateful if you could let me know
what the orders are in India, since although they would not
a Pply strictly in Bahrain they would help me in ensuring
that this folly does not become a serious nuisance.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Colonel
C.G.Prior, C.I.E.,
