A copy of a letter from Sir Harford Jones, British Envoy Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], to Lord Minto, Governor-General of Bengal. The letter concerns the question of whether or not Jones should immediately depart from Bombay [Mumbai] for Persia in order to commence negotiations with Persian ministers, in view of Brigadier-General John Malcolm, Envoy of the Supreme Government of India to Persia, most likely arriving in Persia before himself.

The letter was enclosed in Jones’s letter to Robert Dundas, President of the Board of Control Formally known as the Board of Commissioners for the Affairs of India, it was established by an Act of Parliament in 1784 to supervise the activities of the East India Company. , of 2 June 1808, and was received in December 1808.
