A copy of a letter from Sir Harford Jones, British Envoy Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], to Brigadier General John Malcolm, Envoy of the Supreme Government of India to Persia. The letter covers: Jones’s arrival at Bombay [Mumbai] on 24 April 1808; his decision to postpone his departure from Bombay to Persia; arrangements for his arrival at Bushire [Būshehr]; and the question of whether or not Malcolm should remain at Tahran [Tehran] until Jones’s arrival. Jones also forwards copies of correspondence (not included in this item) between Jones and the Governor-General of Bengal, and translations of letters from the King [Shah] of Persia [Fath-‘Ali Shāh Qājār] and his ministers to the King George III and his ministers.
The letter was enclosed in Jones’s letter to Robert Dundas, President of the Board of Control Formally known as the Board of Commissioners for the Affairs of India, it was established by an Act of Parliament in 1784 to supervise the activities of the East India Company. , of 2 June 1808, and was received in December 1808.
