A translated copy of a letter from Sir Harford Jones, HM Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary A diplomatic representative who ranks below an ambassador. The term can be shortened to 'envoy'. to Persia [Iran], to Hajee Mohammed Hussain Khan Ameen ed Dowlah [Muhammad Hossein Khān Amīn Al Dawlah], Second Minister of Persia, dated 18 March 1810. The letter concerns: the Persian Court's relations with Brigadier-General John Malcolm and Captain Charles Pasley, who are also present in the country representing the Supreme Government of India; Jones's confirmation in his position of Envoy Extraordinary; and the expected arrival of James Justinian Morier, Secretary to Jones's mission, who had conveyed the Preliminary Treaty [Preliminary Treaty of Friendship and Alliance, 1809] to Britain, as well as a messenger from the Ameen ed Dowlah.
The letter was enclosed in Jones's letter No. 5 to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping.
