Translation of a letter from the Crown Prince of Persia [Iran], Abbas Meerza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Qājār], to the Sir-e-Asker of Erzeroon [Serasker, or Governor, of Erzurum], Galib Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. [Mehmed Said Galib Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. ]. In the letter, Abbas Meerza appeals to Galib Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. as a fellow Muslim for assistance in the war between Russia and Persia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. He indicates that Persia declared war as Russian transgressions meant that ‘the pride of Islam could no longer tacitly submit’, and that Persia seeks the assistance of the Turkish [Ottoman] Empire in the war ‘for the protection of Islam’, provided that this would not be contrary to treaty relations between the Turkish Empire and Russia.
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 5, in the letter of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 21 April 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/214).
