A copy of an intercepted letter from General Peskowitch [Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky], Governor-General of Georgia, to General Benkendoff [Konstantin Khristoforovich Benkendorf], sent from Tiflis [Tblisi] and dated 20 October 1827.
The letter concerns the ongoing war between Russia and Persia [Iran] in the Caucasus [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. General Paskevich asks General Benkendorff not to advance beyond Erivane [Yerevan] and instead to send troops to meet the approaching Russian supply convoys.
This letter was originally enclosed, numbered 7 in Dispatch No. 49, in the letter of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 22 June 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/1).
