This bundle consists of summaries of two secret letters received from HM Minister to Persia, Charles Augustus Murray, residing at Baghdad (20 November 1856, Numbers 108-109). They convey Murray's views that the Persian Government will not consent to withdraw its forces from Herat, that the occupation of Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ports will not force the Persians to capitulate, and a recommendation that British forces should strike at Shuster [Shushtar].
