/ Mal^y thanks for your letter of
22nd March, Ho.E*1783/822/91, about the
Muscat Municipal Regulations, 1935.
Subject to the three following
suggestions we see no objection to the
amendments made by the Foreign Office in
the draft Regulations:-
(1) The Regulations will presumably
be signed by the Resident at Bushire.
j,We therefore suggest that "Bushire”
might be substituted for M Muscat M before
the date at the end of the preamble to
the Regulations.
(2) Since the persons to whom the
rules and taxes are to be applied under
the new Regulations are resident at
Muscat, we suggest/that the Regulations
might be exhibited at the office of the
Political Agent
A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency.
and that "the Politicel
Agent at Muscat” might therefore be
substituted for “the Political Resident”
the second time the phrase occurs in the
last sentence of Article 2.
(3) The Regulations are to apply to the
persons referred to in Article 8(1),(2),
(3) of the Muscat
Order in Council
A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council.
, 1915.
On the other hand under Article 8(2) of
the
Order in Council
A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council.
the Order only
applies to the persons referred to in
that sub-Article (i.e. Musca.t subjects
registered in the Political
Agency
An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent.
