informed us that one
condition was omitted to be mentioned in the papers of treaty given to the British
Government by the Rulers of the Arab Coast and Amman relating to the
importation and trade of slaves dated 22nd Jamad Aval 1268 concurring with
8 th May 1867, I Mahomed Bin Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrein, promise and pledge
myself/or the sake of sustaining friendliness with the British Government and
in order to complete their desire of passing that stipulation which is as lollows:—
Whenever it is found out that slaves are brought into the Towns and
places under my authority wheresoever I will capture them and hand over to the
British ships and if it is found that my boats or those of my subjects carried
slaves and by chance were not met by the British ships and landed them at any
place I promise to capture such boats and will stop them from voyage pending
the orders of the British Government.
This passed on 15th Ramadan 1272 A. H. concurring with 10th May
1856 A. D.

I am commanded by His Excellency the Viceroy and Governor-General
of India to inform you that so long as you observe Articles 2 and 3 of the treaty
entered into between your State and the British Indian Government that
Government will fulfil its obligation in regard thereto, an Arabic copy of the treaty
under Notice is enclosed.
Pray inform all those residing in your Island and who may be interested in
the Pearl Fisheries that their interest will be protected. The gun-boat “ Hugh Rose”
has already gone over to Bahrein with Assistant Resident on Board and two
men-of-war are under orders to proceed to Bahrein likewise.
