Translation of the treaty made between :
1 . SHAIKH MAHOMED INBUE KHALIFA,
King of Bahrein.
2. Captain FLEX JONES,
British Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .
In view of the disorders always breaking out among the tribes on account
of the strifes at sea in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. I, Mahomed Bin Khalifa, Independent
King af Behrein on my behalf and on behalf of my successors, put my seal and
give my consent in this paper in the presence of an Assembly of Chiefs and Nobles,
to the treaty of perpetual peace and friendliness with the British Government for
the advance of commerce and for the peace of various people travelling into this
Gulf or those inhabiting its shores according to the following conditions :—
1st condition :— All the conditions and bindings previously made between the
Kings of Bahrein and the British Government or in the name of the
British Government through its Agents in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. will
continue as before and to which I give my binding.
2nd :—I bind myself to refrain from all meddlesomeness at sea of whatsoever
kind, open war-fare or revenge or importing slaves as long as the British
Government will protect me, my country and my property from the
same sort of meddlesomeness of other chiefs and rulers in the Coast
of this Gulf.
3rd :—In order to put those said conditions in force, I agree to refer the informa
tion of all meddlesomeness and outrages which may be made on our
properties and subjects secretly or openly at sea, to the British Resi
dent at the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. without delay for he is the administrator of
such matters and I give my word that no meddlesomeness nor revenge
will proceed from me nor from my Assistants at Bahrein or in the
name of Bahrein on other tribes without the consent of the British
Resident or permission from the British Government when urgency
required.
The British Resident gives binding that he soon w T ill commence getting uS
the necessary recompense for all the damages declared which were done to us or
which may be done to us in future in the sea-route to Bahrein or the dependencies
of Bahrein.
Also I Mahomed Inbue Khalifa agree to recompense thoroughly well all the
claims which may be proved rightfully against me Shaikh of Bahrein or ag a t nS
my subjects on account of meddlesomeness at Sea.
