4th :— As it is known that the British subjects of all nationalities are able
to take houses for them at Bahrein and its dependerxies for the
continuance of commerce and pay tax on their merchandise and
property at 5 per cent either in kind or money on the invoice price
and when the same is paid up at once, that particular article is free
from any other tax, should its owner wish to forward same to some
other place.
As to the treatment of the subjects of the British Government they deserve
from me sincerety as the subjects of any other Government cherishing feelings of
unision and perfect sincerety towards us and all the crimes committed by the British
subjects or committed upon them by others will be pending till the acquisition of the
opinion of the British Resident at the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. in that matter ; should the
British Consul at Bahrein be unable to settle it. Also the British Resident at the
Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. will do his best to get the prosperity of the Bahrein subjects living at
the ports between whose Rulers and the British Government subsists friendly ties.
5th Condition :—These friendly conditions will come into force from the time the
signature is put on them or are acknowledged by the British
Government, so that the same may not remain hidden.
This was executed on 20th Zilqaada 1277 A. H. 11th June 1860 A. D.

I, Isa Bin Ali, King of Bahrein in the presence of Col. A. C. Talbet, c.i.e.,
the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. do hereby pledge and agree on my behalf
and on behalf of my heirs and my successors to the following conditions.
That I will not enter into any agreement or negotiations with any power
but the British Government without the consent of the Biitish Government and
that I will never agree to an Agent of any power but that of the British Govern,
ment staying in my territory. I will not entrust nor will I sell or pledge oi give in
