Letter from Bhai Shankar Kanga and Girdharlal, Solicitors, Albert
Buildings, dated Bombay, the 7th August 1921.
AYe have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No. 36-X
dated the ISth day of Jute 1924 Ser. (21) informing us that the Government
of India are unable to modify their former decision regarding our clients
summary deposition from the Gadi of Bahrein and that no action could he
taken on his behalf.
Our client is deeply grieved and disappointed with the reply of Govern*
ment couched as it is in perfectly general terms without any attempt to meet
any of his specific complaints or to refer to any of the grounds of the refusal of
Government to institute an independent inquiry into his case which is one of
very peculiar hardship and indignity.
Our client feeling aggrieved at the order of Government denying him any
fedress whatever prcposes to submit an appeal to His Lordship the Secretary
of State for India-in-Council. He has already incurred considerable costs in
and about submitting his memorial to the Government of India and further
heavy costs will be incurred in connection with the proposed appeal to the
Secretary of State. In view of his deposition and of his being left without any
means or resources to meet the costs of his defence, our client requests that
Government will be pleased to direct payment to him out of the revenues of
his State of a sum adequate to provide these costs estimated at present at about
Bs 000. Government are doubtless aware of the existing practice of pro-
Mdmg for such costs in a case like the present, and our client, a consistently
oja nen o e British Government, is unwilling to persuade himself, that
alter having been unjustly deprived of his position and rights, and of all his
resources, oveinment can or will refuse him the means of vindicating and
asser mg ns *gnity and his just rights by all legitimate means open to him.
Our cl.ent requests that a very early and sympathetic consideration may be
accord o is request to enable him to seek and obtain the relief and justice
unfortunately denied to him by the Government of India.
