DeGrenier’s appointment approved but you should embody terms of
agreement in formal contract which should be submitted for Government’s
approval. Enquiries are being made to see whether suitable Indian Revenue
Surveyor on Rs. 400 with staff is obtainable. What staff do you propose and
for what period is appointment likely to last ? Presume work will be almost
confined to date gardens and that therefore it would be preferable to secure
services of an Innian officer with Tapu or revenue experience in Iraq. Your
action regarding camel pound is approved. Your further report on reforms
pearling industry is awaited.
At least until improved landing arrangements, etc,, bring about reduction
in prices, expediency of. increasing customs dues at present juncture seems
doubtful. Do you consider it immediate necessity, having regard to financial
position and recent appointment of Customs Director ?

Education of Sheikh Hamad's sons [vide paragraph 5-0. of your letter

There is no objection to your urging upon Sheikh Hamad the advisability
of sending his son Mobarak and one or both of latter’s younger brothers to
India for their education. Mayo College, Ajmer, is suggested as the most
suitable school. Cost for three boys is estimated at 5,000 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. per annum.
It you gam.Sheikh s concurrence details should be settled in direct corre-
pondence with the Principal of the Mayo College and your final proposals
should be submitted to the Government of India in due course.
