Pir-i-Bazar, a port on the Murdab, is connected
with Resht by a short road (> or 7 miles in length,
practicable for vehicles and pack-animals, and a road is
also being constructed between Resht and Kazian at the
entrance to the Murdab opposite Enzeli (see page 46).
(b.) Kazvin to Teheran. See Route VI., section (c). .
VIII.—From Bayazid to Tabriz via Khoi.
170 miles. 8 stages.
Tnis is part of the trade-route between Europe and
Persia via Trebizond. It is regularly used by camel
and mule caravans, but is unsuitable for wheeled traffic.
[Supplies and water are plentiful. The distance from
Trebizond to Tabriz is about 500 miles, which caravans
cover in about fifty days.
IX.—From Isfahan to Hamadan.
(a.) Via Dehak and Sultanabad. 264 miles. 12 stages.
Practicable for artillery throughout, and for wheeled
transport, except near Nesher, about 30 miles from
Hamadan. Water obtainable from kanats, and supplies
procurable in small quantities.
{b.) Via Burujird. 270 miles. 13 stages.
This alternative road crosses a rough mountainous
district between Dumbena and Chaman-i-Sultan. It
could be made practicable for wheels, but is difficult
in places.
Water and supplies procurable throughout.
(c.) Via, Amarat and Daolatabad. 267 miles. 13 stages.
An alternative route which could lie made fit for
wheels with little trouble. Supplies and water obtain
able throughout. The last 35 miles from Daolatabad
to Hamadau are along a good level road fit for wheeled
artillery.
X.—From Hamadan to Sehna (Sinneli).
(a.) Via Khurwa. 89 miles. 4 stages.
A good mule-road. Supplies and water obtainable
throughout.
