VI.—From Julka to Teheran via Tabriz and Kazvin.
490 miles. 28 stages.
The concession for this important road was granted
to a Russian company in 1902. It is being constructed
in such a manner that it can be readily converted into a
railway track. The whole route, although difficult in
places, is practicable for mules and camels. Water and
supplies are plentiful throughout. At Julfa the road
from Tiflis runs down to the northern bank of the River
Aras, which is crossed by a ferry (see p. 17).
Sections.
(a.) From Julfa to Tabriz via Sufian.
95 miles. 5 stages.
This, though at present a rough road over a hilly
country, is capable of being made practicable for wheeled
traffic.
(b.) Tabriz to Kazvin. 304 miles. 16 stages.
A good mule-road, except where it crosses the moun
tains at Mianeh. ' Work is expected to be commenced
on this section in 1906. Carriages now run between
Zinjan and Kazvin.
(c.) Kazvin to Teheran. 91 miles. 7 stages.
This section has lately been improved into a good,
level road, fit for -wheeled traffic.
VII.—From Resht to Teheran via Kazvin.
203 miles. 12 stages.
A good made road, practicable for wheeled transport
throughout. Water and supplies plentiful.
