But until ;the need tor a change becomes patent, it would in our view be
unwise to go out of our way to add to our commitments by a premature departure
irom a policy which has hitherto served its purpose so well.
7. As we are unaware of the results of the Royal Air Force survey or the
intentions of Impena Airways, we are not in a position to discuss the best'sites for
aerodromes or to make detailed suggestions for the course of negotiations with
the sheikhs. If, however, Imperial Airways decide upon this route for their com
mercial venture it will presumably be incumbent on them, aided if necessary by
His Majesty s Government, to subsidise the Sheikhs in whose territories the
aerodromes will he or over whose territories the air-route will pass. The
I olitical Resident will, of course, be ready to afford them every assistance in
the negotiations.
