Kush to Chitral, si distance of 108 miles, or
a total distance between Garm and Chitral
of 340-3o0 miles.
(20.) From Osh (the terminus of the post road No. 4
above) a military road, suitable for light
wheeled traffic,runs to the Pamirski (Murghabi)
Post, via Gulcha, the Taldik pass, Kizil Art
pass (14,260 feet), Kara Kul lake, and Kizil
Rabat, a distance of some 250 miles. In tine
weather mail carts cover this distance in 10
days, though there would be difficulty in
moving artillery over certain portions of the
road.
(a.) From Pamirski (Murghabi) Post to
Chitral, via the Kara Su, Neza Tash pass
(13,650 feet), the Alichur Pamir, Khargosh
pass (14,450 feet), Langar Khisht, Sarhad-
i-Wakhan, Baroghil pass (12,460 feet),*
and Mnstuj, a distance of 340 miles. A
hill route of extreme difficulty.
(5.) From Pamirski (Murghabi) Post
to Gilgit, via the Ak Su valley, Ak Tash,
Kizil Rabat,t Bozai Gumbaz, and over the
Khora Bort pass (15,000 feet), a distance
of 260 miles; a mountain route of great
difficulty, in many places impassable except
for men on foot.
(c.) From Pamirski (Murghabi) Post to
Tashkurghan, in the Taghdumbash Pamir,
a distance of about 100 miles, there is said
to bo a route fit for wheels.
(30.) From Margilan to the Pamirski Post, via
Daraut-Kurghan, the Alai valley and Archa
Bulak (and thence over the Kizil Art pass as
* From south of the Baroghil pass, a route runs via the Darkot
pass (15,200 feet) to Yasin and Gilgit, a distance (from Pamirksi
Post) of 320 miles. A route almost impassable for armed men.
f From Kizil Rabat there is an alternative route over the Bayik
pass into the Taghdumbash Pamir, Chadir-tash, and thence over the
Mintaka pass (15,430 feet), down the Killik river, Hunza to Gilgit,
a distance from Pamirski Post of about 265 miles.
