'Military Report of the Nushki-Chagai-Western Sinjarani Country' [‎120r] (244/302)

SlAH-SUNG.—Lat. 29' 48' ; Long. 65° 59' ; Elev. 3,229
Seventeen miles north of Rahman Khan Kala in Nushki and the first
halting-place between Nushki and Kandahar. I he name is applied to .a
few isolated low hill> consisting of black igneous rocks which, standing
boldly out in the midst of the red sand of the Registan, are very conspicu
ous from a long distance. Mirab Nawar lies immediately under Siah
Sung on the north side. (Walters.)
SIAM REG—
A heavy sand ridge in North-West Baluchistan north of Amalaf, and
south-west of the Gaud-i-Zirreh. It is so called from the sand being
sprinkled with black gravel. MacGregor’s route from Amalaf to Zirreh
goes over this ridge for 5 miles. (MacGregor.)
SIAH REG NAVVAR—
A depression on the western side of the Siah Reg. Water may prob
ably be found here at times, especially after rain. The long plain between
the Gaud-i-Zirreh and the Kachaband Koh all drains into this depression.
Wells clua f here would probably produce water, if not tanks conk be very
easily constructed for the storage of the drainage from the near hills. Fuel
and forage are plentiful at no great distance. [MacGregor.)
1 NJARANI BALUCH —
A tribe of Baluchis inhabiting the desert country extending from Muha-
bafto the valley of the Helmand At Chagai there are some twenty or thirty
families Those in Afghan territory are to be found at Deshu, kudbai,
cTahar Buriak and other places in the Helrnand valley At the tim,
of the visit Of the Afghan Boundary Commission m 1884, there were three
chiefs belonging to the Helmand Sinjarams—lmam Khan of Chahar
n r\»\t Kamal Khan and Ibrahim Khan of Chakansar.
