Referred to the Secretary, Political Department.
Copies of telegrams, etc. from the Pclitical Resident
in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. to the Government of India, P.I594/28
and 161/29 (Flags D. and E) and the Air Ministry letter
dated 24/10/27, E.& 0. 7839 (Flag F) show that during the
tour in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. in November and December 1927,
the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. was accompanied by an officer of
the R.A.F. with instructions from the Air Ministry to
looic for suitable sites for aerodromes and sea-plane bases^
and that the despatch vessel, had to be retained an
additional 10 or 11 days (involving expenditure of
Ra.22,000 for additional hire) mainly in connection with
a survey of the Massand^am Peninsula and connected coasts,
undertaken with reference to the Cairo-Karachi Air-Route.
It is stated in the Political Department minute dated
9/I/29 (above Flag E) that there is a possibility of the
Government of India again desiring to raise with the
Imperial authorities the question of sharing the cost of
the despatch vessel; and that the observations of the
Government of India on this subject are awaited. In the
meantime it seems desirable to continue to claim the
expenditure incurred through employment of the vessel for
an Imperial purpose - or the appropriate share of the
expenditure if the employment of the vessel is for a
purpose which is partly Imperial ano. partly Indian. In
accordance with accepted principles in regard to the
Cairo-Karachi Air-Route, half of the expenditure incurred
in connection with the Massand^am Peninsula survey is
recoverable from the Air Ministry. Enquiry might be made
