639. News now however came which opened a prospect of sutekm

Girishk), to complete the negotiation with TJslum and Feramoz, who met him
there; and then (the account is all Uslum’s) they found what they m
for some little time past suspected, that Yacoob had deluded Meer Aizul m o
promising (1) to do what lie could to get the Governorship of CandaLiar
for him; (2) to procure the withdrawal of the Cabul troops to Candanai,
while Yacoob should be allowed to remain with his followers in Zumeeudawur
and Girishk. TJslum and T^eramoz distinctly pronounced these terms inadmis
sible. Pending receipt of the Ameer’s orders, Yacoob, they said, iriy 8
either dismiss bis troops entirely, or if be would not do that, leave them behind
him and go toMauroof, north of Kelat-i-Ghilzye. He refused to do eithei,
so TJslum and Feramoz moved towards Washeer, intending to take him by sur
prise at night. He heard of the movement in time and fled towards Khashrood (a) (b)

The news that reached Colonel Phayre at Jacobabad was, that when he reached Rodbar, he was well received by
the Belooch Chiefs, Kummul Khan and Imam Khan, and met with a similar good reception from Ibrahim Khan, w ®
he went on to Kuchansoor—news which made Colonel Phayre anxious lest it should be a sign that Yacoob was abou
he joined by the Belooch tribes generally.
In the letter in which he sent this report, Colonel Phayre reported the presence at Jacobabad of three or four
suspicious Afghans, who gave out that they wanted to goby Shikarpoor and Sukkur to see those places on then vay
Dera Ghazi Khan and the Punjab. The Punjab Government was, thereupon, asked to watch the movements o 1(33

(b) The Prince Governor A Prince of the Royal line who also acted as Governor of a large Iranian province during the Qājār period (1794-1925). of Khorassan reported that Yacooh had attempted to cross the Helmund with his forces, but
was repelled by the Persian authorities according to their instructions. He then went to Furrah, where endeavours wer
